Jam Jar Topper

Ugh!!  Another stupid, pointless, waist-of-time, FELT project.  I am getting really frustrated with these kindergarten craft projects. (Wait until you see the donut and the ice cream cone!)

Teapot Cozy

It has been rainy and cold around here for about a month, so I have been drinking a lot of hot tea these days.  That means the tea pot is sitting out on the stove every day and now I have something to cover it up with.  This was pretty quick and easy to make.  I didn't use bias tape around the lower edge, instead I just tucked the raw edges in and hemmed it.  I think it turned out just fine like that.  I also didn't line it, but you could use a heat resistant lining material to be able to use it when the teapot is still warm.  I only plan on having it on the tea pot when I am not using it, so I just didn't bother with the liner.  Either way, this makes a great gift for a friend or family member.  It's quick, easy and you could personalize it with an initial or name on the front.

Quilted Pot Holder

This pot holder project goes with the apron I just made before it.  This was very quick and simple to make.  Literally, it took me about 20 minutes from start to finish including the cutting.  I, of course, used the same dessert fabric again.  Then I backed it with hot pink and made my own bias tape out of the polka dots.  I quilted a wave pattern on it, because I know I am not talented enough to quilt much more than a wave or diamonds.  I think it turned out pretty cute.  My only issue was that I used a quilt batting and I don't think it is thick enough.  It would be better to use a heavier batting piece.

Gathered Apron

As you can probably tell from the last apron project, I love making aprons.  I was excited to see another project sheet for a different apron.  Although, after finishing this one, I will say that I like the tea towel apron better.  I think it's because I am not great at folding the ribbon over a seam, lining it up and making sure I catch the ribbon on both sides.  I always have a few spots where I missed the ribbon on the back side.  Regardless, this did turn out pretty cute.  A little long for me, but I am only 5'1"...so, it is probably the perfect length for people of a more normal height.  Plus, I made this a little more difficult than it had to be.  I had the perfect dessert fabric that I wanted to use, but I only had it in fat quarters.  Since it wasn't big enough, I just pieced it with polka dot fabric to make sure I would be able to use it.

Fabric Basket

I was so excited to make this project.  I have seen many different versions of fabric baskets over the years, but have never made one.  So, I was thrilled to finally have a reason to make one.  I was, however, a wee bit disappointed that this turned out to be a wee bit of a basket.  After all is said and done, the final product is only about 6" wide, 4" deep and 4-5" tall.  So, now I am not really sure what I am going to keep in this basket...any thoughts?

Anyway, I am going to give this another shot (in my spare time...) and I will alter it to take it from a wee little basket to a large-and-roomy-are-you-ready-to-get-organized?-basket!!!  I guess I am going to need stiffer stabilizer or a double batch of the one I used for this basket.  Either way, if I ever get one made...I will post an update and let you know how it turned out.

Tea Towel Apron

This sewing project turned out to be super cute, super easy and a super good idea...so, in a nutshell, SUPER! I love this pattern. Literally, this took 20 minutes from start to finish to make. So easy that I decided to make two of them.

Super cute...just look at the pictures. And the possibilities are endless. I found a couple of really fun tea towels at Tuesday Morning and then accented them with vibrant, printed ribbon. I would use 1 and 1/2 inch ribbon for these just to give you a solid waistband.

Super easy...cut your ribbon, fold your towel, and a few stitches later you have an apron with pockets. You could make your apron faster than you can cook your dinner.

Super good idea...not just fashionable kitchen attire, but practical as well. My aprons are stitched with three pockets, but you could also make them with two. Plenty of room for all the extras you need while baking. Plus, this apron is made from a kitchen towel...so you always have that accessible while preparing your meals.

Tin Can Cover

This tin can cover was everything I look for in a project...simple and quick. In fact, the most time consuming part was coming up the 28 oz. tin can to cover. I don't typically buy food in cans that size since I am not feeding a family, so I picked up some canned pears and had them for breakfast this morning. I think I have reached my limit on pears for the year now. Once I finished my breakfast and got started on the actual project, it only took about 30 minutes start to finish. And now I have this unique canister to house all of my cooking utensils. Actually, I already have one in the kitchen that I use...so I intend to use this as a pen/pencil cup in my office. Or perhaps I will use it to hold all the scissors and rotary cutters in my sewing room. I guess if you start thinking about it, the possibilities are endless. Regardless, I highly recommend this project. Quick. Easy. Cheap. And lets not forget adorable!!!

Mini Oven Mitt

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, it is the perfect time to get the flour and sugar out and bake cookies with all your little helpers. This adorable mini oven mitt is just the accessory you need to help the kids feel like they are included in every step of the way. This pattern was very quick and easy to put together. Pair it with a matching or coordinating apron and all that will be left to do is bake, bake, bake...and of course ice the cookies!! The oven mitt is not to be used for handling hot trays or dishes, it is for play purposes only.
